About use
- For the time being, use is limited to those who will be using the library's materials. (Seating only is not permitted for self-study, etc.)
- If you are coming by car, please use the outdoor parking lot for visitors (fees apply).
- If you are coming by bicycle, please use the designated bicycle parking area.

Usage procedure
- Enter the YU-MAI Center from the west entrance of the porch on the first floor and go to the library on the second floor. The YU-MAI Center is locked after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends and holidays, so please use the interphone on the left to say that you will be using the library.
- Please fill out the usage application form at the Service Desk.

Notes
- Please be quiet in the library and refrain from any behavior that may disturb other users.
- Only water (hot water) and tea (without sugar) in sealable containers such as plastic bottles and thermoses may be brought into the library.
- Bringing in food, smoking, talking on mobile phones, and taking pictures with cameras or videos are prohibited.
- Please treat books and magazines with care, taking care not to write on them or damage or soil them. Please do not cut them out or take them out without permission.
- A device to prevent unauthorized removal has been installed in front of the service desk. If the alarm sounds, please follow the instructions of the staff.
- Do not leave your belongings unattended, and always keep your valuables with you.

In-library browsing
- Books and magazines on the shelves are available for free viewing.
- If you wish to use materials in the closed stacks, please submit an application form at the service desk. Materials can only be retrieved from 8:45am to 5:00pm on weekdays. If you apply outside of these hours, please come back the following weekday.
- Books and academic journals are available at the library, and some are also stored in courses.

Library search
- You can search the books in Yamagata University Library's collection using the OPAC terminals on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building.
- OPAC can also be searched from off-campus if you are connected to the Internet.

Regarding copying of materials
- There is a coin-operated copy machine (black and white only) in front of the service desk.
- Before making copies, please fill out the document copying application form and place it in the box provided.
- In accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Act, copying is limited to a portion (less than half) of the materials held by the library, one copy per person. Please also observe the provisions of the Copyright Act when using the machine.

Outside the library
Books
- Books can be borrowed only by those who live or commute to school or work in Yamagata Prefecture.
- If you wish to borrow books, you will be issued a library card (valid for one year), so please apply for use. At that time, please present identification (My Number card, driver's license, student ID, etc.).
- Those who are granted permission to borrow materials may do so under the following conditions: Please present your library card at the service desk and complete the procedure.
- Library cards issued at libraries on other campuses can also be used to borrow books from this library.

- Please return audiovisual materials (DVDs, etc.) directly to the Service Desk without putting them in the book drop.
- Books borrowed from libraries on other campuses can be returned to the Medical library.
- Books borrowed from the Medical Library can also be returned to libraries on other campuses.

Use of computers and electronic journals

- You may use the non-university terminals in the computer area, but internet access will be restricted as follows.

- View the Yamagata University Library website.
- View Yamagata University web pages.
- Search for academic papers on PubMed, Ichusi-Web, etc. (Paper text cannot be viewed.)
- If you would like to print it out, please contact the service desk. You will be given a document copy (printout) application form, which you should fill out and submit. There is a fee for printing out (black and white 35 yen / color 70 yen per sheet).

No other internet access is permitted.
Use of electronic journals
- The use of electronic journals will be restricted.
- Due to contracts with publishers, electronic journals may be available, so please inquire at the Service Desk.
- Before coming to the library, please contact the library with the information about the article you are looking for (journal name, article title, volume, page number, publication year, etc.) and we will look into it for you. - Please apply through your institution's library.
- Copying fees (black and white 35 yen / color 70 yen per sheet) plus shipping fees will apply.
- Payment must be by registered cash or postal money order. (Bank transfers, postal payments, and invoice payments are not accepted.)
- In accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Act, copying is limited to one copy per person of a portion (less than half) of materials held by the library for research purposes. In addition, please use this material in accordance with the provisions of copyright law.
