How to Find Library Materials
- Search the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) for books, journals, e-books, and other materials in the YU Libraries.
- Make a note of the location and the call mark of the item you need. The call mark indicates the position of the book on the shelf. Itʼs based on Nippon Decimal Classification (NDC).
000: General works
100: Philosophy
200: History
300: Social Sciences
400: Natural science
500: Technology
600: Industry
700: The arts
800: Language
900: Literature
Every book in our collection (except periodicals) is labeled with a call mark on its spine. (Some journals also have call marks, however they are shelved in alphabetical order by title.) All materials in open-shelves and stack room can be used freely. After use, please return them to their original positions. If materials get shelved incorrectly, other patrons won’t be able to find them.
How to Find a Specific Article
You can search the OPAC by the book/journal title, instead of the article title. See also if we hold the volume you need. If the book/journal you are searching for does not come up in the search results, try using the Publication Finder which searches for e-journals and e-books. When you don't have the citation, you need to use databases like CiNii research and Web of Science .
